more quiet than expected this show; Kelly Hogan did most of the talking. Neko barely addressed the audience directly, but then, that’s exactly the way i wanted it. her music, her voice, there’s something so hauntingly removed about it. managed to squirm my way directly in front of the stage, and my god, i was blown away. i’ve been to some unforgettable shows (front row of AFI, onstage with Anti-Flag, two feet from Feist in the Unitarian church basement before she was famous), but i honestly dont think ive ever seen an artist live whose voice was so incredibly… crisp.
She started with Maybe Sparrow, and ran through a lot of her recent catalogue. Most tracks were from Middle Cyclone, but she also sang a few from The Tigers Have Spoken and a lot of Fox Confessor... The set ended with This Tornado Loves You (possibly my favorite track on the new one), and then they came back out for the encore, which included some absolute favorites: If You Knew, Magpie to the Morning, That Teenage Feeling and the absolutely awesome show closer: John Saw that Number. The entire audience walked out last night with giant, silly-ass smiles plastered on. Enjoy.
