j. humph rocked this episode.
not going to lie, the complete lack of suspense tonight was a little ridiculous.
blair calls chuck inhuman, and says he should hang out with dan. dan’s mentor tells him he needs to break out of his boring holdenesque existence. chuck shows some pain, dan shows some spunk; they end up in jail. chuck finds out dan’s writing about him and freaks out (charlie trout! how original!!). i comment on how attractive ed westick is, even while sneering. julia makes note to start speaking in a whisper and avoid all eye contact with people. not sure it’d have quite the same effect.
jenny’s been skipping school. eleanor loves her. serena’s been hanging out with socialites and jenny saves the waldorf show. blair is hella jealous, though, and goes into massive scheming mode. totally screws jenny over with the hooky and tries to sabotage her mother’s show (seriously, blair?? i lost a little respect tonight. your OWN mother, really!). buuuuut it all totally backfires!! jenny’s dress is a hit (though serena is a hella bitch. and what was up with that hair!??), eleanor freaks a bit, but then blair does the unthinkable and tells her mother [mostly] the truth. mama waldorf totally forgives jenny and gives her massive credit! yay jenny!
oh, and massive props for calling B out, giving her both a major compliment and knocking some sense into her (for what it’s worth, i totally agree. id much rather be B’s friend than Serena’s. paper mache mephistopheles much?). and for calling out rockadaddy, too! (since when is a week of truancy grounds for expulsion?! but props to Rufus for telling his daughter he hopes she has all the success in the world. as for the quitting school thing: since when has that ever worked for anyone? go to college, jenny!)
ahh but i digress! what else happened? oh, right! serena hung out with poppy lipton (i dont get the whole socialite popularity craze. oh the upper east side! oh paris!), did that weird thing with her lips that makes her look like a cross between a small dog and a boozy pinup, and totally paraphrased poppy’s ridiculous “let me shine” speech when she stood up to blair. granted B’s more than a little selfish, but serena was WAY out of line (i really need to stop tearing up for superficial teen shows and start showing emotion in real life) and far more hurtful than she needed to be (for some reason, she reminded me vageuly of Keira in atonement: that dress; beautiful yet something was slightly off – for keira the fact that she looked ani, for Blake that crazy runway ‘do; and not neccesarily in the wrong to start, but a cold hearted bitch when the chips fell). anyway, it was not pretty, and id better see S do some groveling before december.
need i say more??
the rundown: great to see j.hump get the spotlight for once (and loved the interactions with B), and just hoping this quitting school thing doesnt send her up in flames. as for everyone else: chuck is chuck. dan’s still the golden boy. serena needs frizzease. nate’s awol (economic crisis, people!). bart’s evil as sin. lily’s desperate as ever. and rufus still thinks we can take him seriously while wearing black button ups with little pink rose accents on the shoulders (stylish, yes; disciplinary, no)!
next week: yale? the school everyone wants to go to? because new haven is SO charming? a secret society? serena trying to take away everything blair wants? is she even smart? leighton meester looking absolutely librarian hot in a prep sweater and thick frames? chuck getting kidnapped? in broad daylight? in the quad? everyone getting accepted to an ivy league school so they can continue with the show next year when the students all graduate? i just cant wait!
